- Damian's 10 Basic Songwriting Rules
1. when songwriting begins, clear your mind must be
2. absorb the moment your in hypnotize yourself into a trance, gear yourself
up
3. start on an instrument sound or guitar or whatever instrument you play,
even the drums can get yoy started
4. just do random things and pick the best of that moment & work on it
5. write/record any material you make, u might find something better for the
song later on
6. by this stage you should have at least something to work on and improvise
on that, the chord structure basic melody etc
7. lyrics if you have any in mind should be written down on paper or notepad
on computer while your working out the tune
8. now you have a definite idea of the melody of the song after you have
some lyrics & improvise on that
9. you should have all parts written by this point and meld the 2 together,
either music or lyrics
10. this is called the completion stage, you have the melody the backing and
the lyrics all sorted and recording the final vocals and fine tune the song
bear in mind that this isn't a formal way of writing the song but it gives
you an idea on what to expect
